ABOUT JADE ALBERT

JADE ALBERT (b. 1950, New York City) launched her photography career in the 1970s, focusing on FASHION, HIGH SOCIETY, and POP CULTURE.

“This was a world where classifications and categories seemed to fall by the wayside,” as Ingrid Sischy has written, “…where traditional society and new society, uptown and downtown, the powerful and the powerless, young and old, all danced” together.

Ms. Albert worked with Grace Mirabella for VOGUE, and for Carrie Donovan at HARPER’S BAZAAR and later at THE NEW YORK TIMES SUNDAY MAGAZINE. She also became a contributing photographer on the masthead of Andy Warhol’s INTERVIEW magazine. The publications she worked on not only gained her INCREDIBLE ACCESS, but helped her create a BODY OF WORK that separated her from the frenzied desperation of the paparazzi. Ms. Albert was the RARE YOUNG WOMAN working at a time when most photographers were men.

She was invited to shoot endless events, including New York and international FASHION WEEKS; parties at STUDIO 54, and the goings-on at REGINE’S, and many other clubs. She shot the MET GALA chaired by jACQUELINE ONASSIS and other HIGH-PROFILE events, capturing images of Ronald and Nancy Regan, the William F. Buckleys, George Plimpton, John lennon, Yoko Ono, Halston, Carolina Herrera, Diane von Furstenberg, VALENTINO, VERSACE, ARMANI, Calvin Klein, and many more.

Jade could frequently be found in the FRONT ROW of showrooms capturing designer's collections as MODELS walked the RUNWAY. In so doing she developed a VIP STATUS— as reflected in a recent show on Studio 54 at the Brooklyn Museum — allowing her to work “BEYOND THE ROPES,” as she likes to say. Her constant presence at these events helped her develop relationships with a host of colorful people, affording her the opportunity to capture some RARE, CANDID, and iNTIMATE moments.

In 1984, Ms. Albert established JADE ALBERT STUDIO, specializing in the photographing of babies and young children for advertising. She worked with MAJOR BRANDS and photographed countless young actors and models who went on to become major personalities. Her commercial work earned her profiles in THE NEW YORK TIMES and AMERICAN PHOTOGRAPHER. Her celebrity photographs made the covers of PEOPLE and TIME MAGAZINE. In 2001, she co authored the children's book ABOUT FACE with CINDY CRAWFORD (Harper Collins). And in 2005, her photography book, THE CHARM OF CHARMS was published by Harry Abrams. During the pandemic, she decided to close her studio and market the work of the 1970s and ‘80s that LAUNCHED HER CAREER.

Ms. Albert's iconic images of ANDY WARHOL, CANDICE BERGEN, and SALVADOR DALÍ at a private dinner in 1976 have been featured in TORSTEN OTTE's historical biography of Dalí and Warhol's encounters. Her work now hangs in the HOTEL CHELSEA in New York, and in PRIVATE collections. Her photographs were most recently featured in an exhibiton for the 2026 WORLD'S MOST INFLUENTIAL WOMEN'S SUMMIT. She is featured in the forthcoming documentary of Andy Warhol collaborator Richard Berstein ‘Gloss And Grit: The Man Who Made Art Pop.'
